Teaching is rewarding in many ways. I imagine that we have similar and different gifts and stories that brought us closer in our connection to people and loved ones through the grace of reflection (teaching).
In particular, I get the gift of reflection -into my own life, thus dissolving any "ideas" of role-based positions, student-teacher, teacher-student. One important feedback loop that I am confronted with everyday is the fact that I have to make deliberate decisions to carve out time to take care of myself. I am faced with a balancing dance, being a teacher and being in service to myself, emotionally, physically and mentally. In other words, I am asking myself obvious but serious questions throughout the day, what does Lanie want and need today?
Being in connection is two-fold, it requires a dichotomy of opening and closing. I will use the metaphor of a flower, during the day it opens -giving hope and joy and at night it closes, it is not a bad thing that it closes, it is necessary.
I hope that you take me up on my offer of opening and closing –as I will provide you with a safe space to renew, rejuvenate and express your on-going needs in your personal life and in your teaching profession:
your time, movement time:
Open Bowl donations -give what you can; Movement Ritual
your time, playtime:
Moving off the Yoga Mat™ with Lanie Bergin
When I created this class, I was thinking of what I wished for as a yoga teacher;
I wanted to play more, I wanted to get off the mat and play with the ideas that were important to me, I wanted to explore meaningful themes and express them in a supportive environment. I wanted to get serious and I wanted to laugh at myself. I wanted to be in collaboration with like-minded fellow travelers. I wanted to learn new things, in new ways. I wanted to move outside the box, and increase my sense of movement awareness. I wanted to feel the freedom in fluidity while being rooted in form and structure.
A great way to enrich your practice on a personal and professional level; as a qualified teacher trainer with Yoga Alliance my workshop provides you with continuing education units in the following areas:
Body logic/Psycho-somatics – working creatively with the study of kinesthesia and how that relates to every day life, physically, emotionally and mentally! The body is an amazing operating vehicle, and today we are learning more and more about how the brain is capable of re-learning and dramatically influencing the bodies physical state.
Observation skills - You will learn how to approach movement and expression through mindful, experimental and relational activities. Resulting in the capacity to pay careful attention to whatever is happening for you, and for your students in the present moment as it unfolds.
Non-verbal tracking - while working in collaboration, the gift and skill of witnessing will give you practical and useful tools to track the subtleties that arise in the body, beyond a typical movement, shape or gesture -thus affording you the space to be inquisitive, patient and empathetic –with yourself and with others.
